Today, on March 9, 1858, American designer and publisher Gustav Stickley was born.  He believed that people should make their own home furniture and furnishings, and even provided designs in his monthly magazine “The Craftsman”.  Images are from the April 1905 issue of “The Craftsman”. 

We’re a little late in sharing this post from our friends at the Art, Prints & Photographs Collections of the NYPL. But, it’s fascinating, nonetheless!
